Hello! Welcome to my edition of “20 minute crafter.”
Like many of you, Little Bit Funky is one of my very favorite blogs, so I am so honored to be sharing one of my projects over here with you!
This has got to be one of the easiest craft projects I’ve ever done…
Everyone knows that silhouettes are still super hot decor.
If you haven’t done one for your kids yet, you have no excuse now!:)
Supplies that you’ll need:
~camera and a printer
~wooden plaque (I bought mine at Michaels for 79 cents)
~white paper (I prefer cardstock)
~Modge Podge
~scissors
~black paint and a paintbrush
~ribbon
~hot glue gun
The first thing you need to do is take your picture. I have four little ones, so I put them on the same white wall one at a time, backed up about 2 feet, and got on my knees so that I was at their level. Don’t worry about shadows or anything like that. Then just snap a few…
The plaques that I bought measure about 4 x 6, so I printed my photos at 3 1/2 x 5. I prefer to use cardstock, but if you only have regular printer paper it will work.
Cut out the profiles. I think it’s much more interesting to get in all those pesky hairs!
Cut away from the shadows if you have any…
Turn your silhouette over and paint it black. As you can see in my photo, the paper will curl a little, but after it dries, it should lay back down. Let it dry completely.
Using a thin layer of modge podge, glue your silhouette down. Go slowly to prevent bubbles. Use your finger to smoosh out any bubbles and to get it nice and flat. I also put a coat of modge podge on the top as well. Let it dry.
Cut a piece of ribbon about 8 inches long. Using hot glue, adhere it to the back.
Voila! You are done! Now hang it!
You may have noticed that I never painted my wooden plaques. I preferred the look of the light wood. You could vary this project by painting the background different colors, painting your silhouette a different color, or incorporating scrapbooking papers into the mix. I hung ours above our bed, but I think it would be a great idea to make them for scrapbooks too.
Wouldn’t it be cool to make one at the same time every year to document change?
